TAMS Plot - Grow, Learn & Get Involved!

Since 2021, we've been cultivating a vibrant community plot at Grove Nursery (Hazledene Rd, Aberdeen AB15 8LD)—a space for hands-on learning, no-dig gardening, and growing fresh produce for our stalls. It’s the perfect place for workshops, skill-sharing, and connecting with nature.

🌱 Volunteer with us! We run sessions every Thursday, 1–3 PM.

Our plot at Grove in 2022

No-dig gardening

At TAMS, we embrace no-dig gardening—a simple and sustainable method that nurtures soil health and reduces weeds. We started our plot by layering cardboard to suppress weeds, then covering it with compost or woodchip to create fertile, undisturbed growing beds.

🌱 Why No-Dig?

✔️ Easier to maintain

✔️ Protects soil biodiversity

✔️ Improves water retention and plant health

Come see it in action at our Grove Nursery plot and learn how to grow the no-dig way!

Small fruits cages

To keep our delicious berries safe and thriving, we’ve built fruit cages for crops like blackcurrants, redcurrants, and strawberries.

These structures help protect the plants from pests while creating the perfect environment for healthy growth.

Growing an Orchard

We've planted a variety of fruit trees, including pear, apple, plum, and hazel, to create a thriving, sustainable orchard. These trees will provide fresh, local fruit for years to come while supporting biodiversity and enriching our community space.

Come visit and watch our orchard grow!

Compost

In 2024, we expanded our compost bays to produce even more nutrient-rich compost right on site. Composting is key to healthy soil and sustainable gardening, and we’re always happy to share our knowledge!

Wild flowers patch

We've dedicated a quarter of our plot to supporting wildlife and biodiversity. Our next step? Establishing a beautiful wildflower patch to attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators!

🌼 A healthier ecosystem starts with more flowers! Stay tuned as we bring this project to life.

Wildlife pond

We've created a pond to support a richer and more diverse ecosystem at our site. This natural habitat attracts frogs, insects, and other wildlife, helping to promote biodiversity and a healthier environment.

🌿 A thriving garden starts with a balanced ecosystem! Come see how our pond is making a difference.

Cozy Shelter – A Space to Learn & Relax!

Our shelter is the perfect spot for hosting workshops, sharing skills, and enjoying a well-earned tea break after a day in the garden. Whether it’s rain or shine, it’s a welcoming space to gather, learn, and connect with the community.

Join us for a workshop or just a friendly chat—there’s always a warm cup waiting!
